Henrietta Art Therapy At A Glance
ART THERAPY goes BEYOND WORDS
The American Psychiatric Association notes that art therapy can help people express emotions and experiences that are difficult to put into words. Creative work gives you another way to explore what you are feeling, remembering, or trying to understand.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE AN ARTIST
The finished product is not the point, and artistic skill is never required. Scribbles, collage, clay, talking while your hands stay busy, or choosing not to make art can all have a place in art therapy in Henrietta.
AFFIRMING CARE MAKES ROOM FOR WHO YOU ARE
Our studio is affirming of LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, disabled, and other marginalized folx, while remaining trauma-informed and non-pathologizing. Therapy should help you better understand yourself, not teach you to hide the parts of yourself that make other people uncomfortable.
THERAPY SHOULD FIT YOUR BRAIN, BODY, AND VALUES
Therapy may blend art-making and conversation with ACT, attachment-based work, CBT, IFS-informed parts work, narrative therapy, somatic approaches, mindfulness, and other tools. We adapt those approaches around your brain, body, needs, and values instead of expecting you to fit one rigid model.

A New Henrietta Location Built for Creative, Affirming Therapy
....Therapy That Doesn't Try to "Fix" You.
Spotted Rabbit Studio, Closer to Home
Henrietta and West Henrietta have been part of our community for years, so opening a third art therapy studio here feels less like expanding somewhere new and more like creating space where our clients already are. Once open, you will be able to meet with a Henrietta art therapist at 200 Canal View Boulevard, Suite 2W, adding another option for in-person care alongside our Brighton and Pittsford studios.
A Creative Space That Feels Like Spotted Rabbit
The Henrietta studio will carry the same colorful, welcoming feel as our other locations, with room to talk, make art, work with different materials, and settle into art therapy in Henrietta in a way that feels comfortable.
Like our other studios, think more creative studio than clinical office, with art materials close at hand and space to settle in at your own pace.
More Room for the Community We Already Serve
Opening in Henrietta will mean less driving for many of the people who have already been making their way to Spotted Rabbit from Henrietta, West Henrietta, Rochester, and nearby communities. More than anything, we are excited to create another place for a community that has already been showing up for years. We are happy to be getting a little closer to home.

How Art Therapy Differs From
Traditional Talk Therapy
(Hint: It's Therapy That Doesn't Feel Like Therapy)
More Than One Way to Express What Is Going On
Traditional talk therapy often begins with words, but art therapy gives you more than one place to begin. You can still talk through relationships, notice patterns, practice boundaries, and work toward goals, but conversation does not have to carry the whole session. During art therapy in Henrietta, you might draw while talking, use collage to sort through conflicting feelings, work with clay when your body needs movement, or create a visual metaphor for something you do not quite know how to explain yet.
Working with a Henrietta art therapist can also take some of the pressure out of face-to-face conversation. You can keep your hands busy, focus on a material instead of maintaining eye contact, or use the creative process to slow things down when a topic feels vulnerable or overwhelming.
You Get a Say in What the Session Looks Like
Art therapy in Henrietta is collaborative, so you are not expected to follow a creative prompt just because your therapist suggests one. You can ask why an activity might be helpful, adapt it, choose a different material, or decide that talking feels better that day. Art might take five minutes, most of the session, or none of it at all.
Your Henrietta art therapist is also not there to assign a universal meaning to what you create. Your own associations, reactions, and experiences guide the conversation, so an image can mean whatever it means to you rather than becoming something your therapist interprets from across the room.
Therapy Approaches We Can Adapt Around You
Sessions may draw from art therapy, expressive arts therapy, ACT, attachment-based therapy, CBT, IFS-informed parts work, narrative therapy, person-centered therapy, polyvagal theory, mindfulness, somatic practices, strengths-based work, family systems, and trauma-focused care.
The point is not to collect modalities. It is to have different tools available so therapy can respond to the person sitting in the room.
The canvas is ready when you are.

What Sets Spotted Rabbit Creative Arts Therapy Apart?
At Spotted Rabbit Creative Arts Therapy, you do not have to arrive with a neat explanation for what is going on. Trauma, neurodivergence, identity, relationships, chronic illness, burnout, and anxiety can overlap, and we know how exhausting it can feel when you are expected to separate them into tidy boxes.
We Look at the Whole Picture
Maybe old family patterns keep showing up in your relationships. Maybe you are trying to understand the difference between a trauma response, sensory overload, burnout, or simply reaching your limit. Maybe your body, identity, capacity, or priorities have changed, and you are trying to understand what life looks like now.
You do not have to decide which part of your experience is the “real” problem. Your Henrietta art therapist can help you get curious about how your history, identity, nervous system, relationships, environment, and values connect.
Creativity Gives Us More to Work With
Art therapy gives us ways to explore an experience from different angles. Drawing, clay, color, collage, movement, metaphor, or simply having something to do with your hands can make space for things that feel tangled, abstract, or difficult to untangle through conversation alone.
The art is not the assignment. It is another tool we can use to notice patterns, externalize something that feels heavy, experiment, get curious, and see what comes up.
You Can Show Up as Yourself Here
Spotted Rabbit Creative Arts Therapy is built around affirming, collaborative care. You should not have to spend your session defending your identity, giving a crash course on your lived experience, or performing a version of yourself that feels easier for everyone else.
We are not here to fix who you are. We are here to help you understand yourself with more compassion, find support that actually fits, and make more room for a life that feels like your own.
The canvas is ready.
Spotted Rabbit Creative Arts Therapy supports LGBTQIA+ clients, neurodivergent people, people living with chronic illness or disability, trauma survivors, folks struggling with past abandonment, and people who have simply just felt misunderstood or out of place in more traditional therapy settings.
Our inclusive therapists in Henrietta will make room for your communication style, sensory needs, identity, relationships, and lived experience. You can ask questions, slow down, say no to an activity, explore self-diagnosis or late diagnosis, and talk openly about what is or is not working. Many of our therapists also bring lived experience into this work, which can mean less time explaining pronouns, masking, sensory overload, chronic illness, or non-traditional relationships and more time getting into the reasons you came to therapy in the first place.
ANXIETY
Have you ever been told to "just relax"? Yeah, it’s not very helpful, is it? Our therapists believe it’s important to understand the connection between our emotions and our nervous system, so we can find effective strategies for anxiety that impact both mind and body. Using an effective combination of ACT and somatic approaches, we gently help your nervous system find safety and calm.
Complex Trauma
Not having your emotional needs met as a child can lead to becoming an adult who struggles to form and maintain healthy relationships...and has a hard time trusting others. You might find that it’s difficult to set boundaries and that you've set some unrealistic standards for yourself. We can explain how trauma impacts development and help you make sense of the chaos.
Depression
Here at Spotted Rabbit, we take a whole body approach to treating depression. We help you look at how your past and present lived experiences impact you, review the stories you continue to tell about yourself, explore how your actions align with your values, and help you vastly improve your relationships and environment to better meet your needs through creative therapy.
Intuitive Eating
Using an intuitive eating philosophy, we help you reconnect with your body, learn to trust your own hunger, and take steps to address the underlying issues that lead you to use food to cope. This leads to a greater sense of control over food choices, increased understanding of your emotions, and a more positive sense of self.
LGBTQIA+ Challenges
Life can be pretty miserable when we aren’t living as our authentic selves. Many of our Spotted Rabbit therapists identify as LGBTQIA+, so they know what it’s like in the real world to try to live as someone they aren’t. They also know what it’s like to try to figure out exactly who you are and what you want to present to the rest of the world.
Neurodivergence
Trying to live in a neurotypical world when you have autism, ADHD, or AuDHD likely means your batteries are always drained. There is a different way than just masking and pushing through. Our therapists focus on helping you craft a life that works with you, rather than against you, as well as one that recognizes and honors your strengths.
Non-Traditional Relationships
Therapy here can feel more like sitting in a creative studio than being assessed under fluorescent lights. Sessions may include talking, drawing, collage, clay, movement, visual journaling, grounding, sensory support, or simply having a real conversation with someone who is not asking you to perform being okay. The creative process is not about talent. It is about giving your nervous system another way to express what you have experienced.
OCD
When you have OCD, your mind can feel like it’s constantly asking for reassurance, certainty, or one more check. It can be exhausting to feel like you have to listen to those thoughts just to get a moment of relief. Our therapists can help you understand what’s happening without judgment and develop new ways of responding, so you can spend less energy managing OCD and more energy living a life that feels like yours.
Individual Creative art classes
Our teaching artists are experienced in a variety of traditional and non-traditional visual arts media and methods. Personalized art classes allow participants opportunities to explore the creative process, develop a personal style and expand the technical quality of their artwork all while practicing critical soft skills such as frustration tolerance, socialization, and communication.

Online therapy across New York
We have two other studios, one in Pittsford and one in Brighton, for in-person care. We also provide online therapy for clients across New York. Yes, you can do art therapy remotely! You can choose the setting that best fits your access needs, schedule, comfort level, and nervous system.
FAQs: Therapy at the Henrietta Studio
COMMON QUESTIONS WE HEAR
Do I Need to Be Good at Art to Try Art Therapy?
No. Art therapy is about what happens during the process, not whether the finished piece looks polished. You can experiment, make a mess, work simply, or choose a different way to engage with the session.
What Happens in Art Therapy in Henrietta?
In a session with one of our Henrietta art therapists, you may start by checking in about what has been happening and decide together where to go from there. You might work with art materials while talking, focus on a creative process for part of the session, or stay with conversation when that feels more useful.
Can I Just Talk If I Don’t Feel Like Making Art?
Yes. Art is available, not compulsory, and some sessions may be almost entirely verbal. Your therapist can follow what feels useful rather than expecting every session to look the same.
Does Spotted Rabbit Work With LGBTQIA+ and Neurodivergent Clients?
Yes. LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent-affirming care is central to our work. We support queer, trans, nonbinary, autistic, ADHD, OCD, late-diagnosed, self-identified, and questioning clients.
Do You Work With Children and Teenagers?
Yes. Spotted Rabbit works with kids and teens as well as adults. Creative and play-based approaches can give younger clients more ways to communicate, experiment, and make sense of big feelings.
What Types of Concerns Do Your Henrietta Art Therapists Work With?
Our team works with complex trauma, emotional neglect, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, OCD, burnout, LGBTQIA+ identity, relationships, disordered eating and body image, chronic illness, chronic pain, dissociation, emotion regulation, and life transitions.
Where Is the Henrietta Studio?
Our new Henrietta studio will be located at 200 Canal View Boulevard, Suite 2W, Rochester, NY 14623, across from Winton Place and near the Erie Canal Trail.
How Do I Choose the Right Art Therapist?
Think about what you want support with, how you like to communicate, whether particular lived experiences matter to you in a therapist, and what kind of personality helps you feel comfortable. If you are unsure which Henrietta art therapist may be a good fit, reach out and we can help you sort through the options.

Henrietta, We’re So Happy to Be Here
We are genuinely excited to bring Spotted Rabbit Creative Arts Therapy to Henrietta. This new studio means more room for the kind of therapy we care deeply about: creative, collaborative, trauma-informed care where LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent kids, teens, and adults have space to be understood as whole people.
Your time here can look like talking, making art, practicing boundaries, noticing old patterns, exploring something you have not had language for yet, or simply figuring out what support would make life feel a little more manageable.
