On an average day, understanding and expressing emotions is difficult. It’s even more challenging when we get emotionally overwhelmed or have feelings that aren’t clearly aligned with our experiences. Many people struggle with verbal communication and self-expression as things like trauma, anxiety, and neurodivergence impede the ability to access the more logical parts of our brain, particularly during times of distress. Visual art, at it’s core, is a form of communication. You see this clearly through the use of symbols and maps but even abstract art conveys concepts and emotions. Thus, through art making clients can access more emotional parts of the brain to visually “talk” about complicated experiences and lean into difficult emotions.

Every person’s therapeutic journey is different and is dependent on your lived experiences, personal values, and identified needs. I believe my role as a therapist is to work alongside you, guiding you towards the goals you hope to accomplish. I’m not here to tell you what to do, but I am here to encourage you to discover your authentic self and take steps towards the person you want to be and the life you want to live. Through this process, we’ll explore things that might be holding you back such as the ability to regulate your emotions, regular use of coping skills and self-care activities, and engagement in healthy relationships. We’ll explore what values you want to hold onto and which you want to let go of. We’ll look at unmet needs and how you might be using unhealthy behaviors to attempt to meet them. And through it all, I’ll create a space for you founded in trust, support, and validation.

  • Do you have trouble calming down when you’re upset?
  • Do you struggle in social situations and feel awkward?

  • Do you sometimes feel anxious, depressed, or upset but don’t know why?

If the answer to many of these is yes, please reach out to see how I can help. You can email me below or give me a call at 585-430-9877 x705.
