job description
Spotted Rabbit Studio is a growing private practice in Rochester, NY staffed exclusively with licensed creative arts therapists who specialize in trauma-focused care, neurodivergence, and LGBTQ issues, specifically gender transition.
Spotted Rabbit is currently seeking an LGBTQ specialist to join our team. Must have graduate degree from an accredited program in art therapy and be eligible for LCAT licensure. Preference for current NYS license in creative arts therapy but will consider recent graduates or therapists with a limited permit.
Ideally candidate would provide in-person therapy at our Pittsford, NY office, however we will consider a fully-remote position for the right person. Position is full-time with 30 scheduled sessions per week. With client cancellations, therapist can expect to actually work 25 client hours on a weekly basis. Position is paid hourly, at a rate of $37-42 per hour based on licensure and experience. Part-time position may be considered.
Spotted Rabbit is committed to providing a living wage and healthy work/life balance. We are focused on helping clinicians maintain small caseloads and provide personalized spaces to work within a supportive team environment. If you are looking for a slower paced and less formal work environment, this is it.
We allow clinicians to choose their work schedules, including a 4 or 5 day work week, scheduling in extended breaks mid-day, and 4 weeks paid time off. Clinicians are full W2 employees – this is not a contract position. Health benefits for full-time employees. CEU/art class reimbursement for all employees.
Candidate should identify as part of the LGBTQ community as our clients are specifically seeking therapists who have shared lived experiences. Candidate should be familiar with LGBTQ concerns, including identity development, knowledge of medical options for gender transition, and non-traditional relationships. Preference for therapist who identifies as trans, non-binary, or gender fluid. Additional experience with clients who have adhd, autism, and/or OCD preferred. Majority of our clients are 20s-30s, have a history of neglect/abuse, and identify as queer and neurodivergent. Setting and maintaining boundaries, building healthy relationships, living a values-aligned life, and regulating emotions are common themes. There are opportunities to work with clients in other related subspecialties of personal interest. Desire to work with gender expansive youth (ages 5-12) preferred.
Our therapists utilize a wide variety of approaches with a focus on action oriented, trauma-focused approaches such as ACT, CBT, Psychodynamic, Internal Family systems, body positive/HAES, narrative, existential, feminist, multicultural, and person centered. Experience and familiarity with polyvagal theory or other somatic practices a plus. Additionally, our therapists incorporate Jungian and spiritual approaches such as the use of archetypes, tarot cards, oracle decks, and mindfulness/meditation into their work with clients.
Spotted Rabbit is a fully stocked mixed-media art studio that provides art-based psychotherapy. Candidate must be well versed in a variety of visual art media. Preference for experience in fiber arts (crochet, knitting, weaving, and sewing) and ceramics (hand building). Must be willing to seek out and learn new techniques to adapt to clients’ skills and interests. Should be knowledgeable in traditional fine art as well as craft media.
Intake and billing services are handled for you so you can focus on your individual clients. Biweekly individual supervision provided. Weekly group supervision provided.

We typically start preparing for our interns around February or March, however it is never too early to reach out if you are interested as we occasionally secure interns prior to this time. Depending on client availability we may be able to take on first year students for their practicum hours.
Interning at Spotted Rabbit is a good fit for students who are interested in working with clients who have experienced emotional neglect, are neurodivergent, or are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Interns should be familiar with psychotherapy approaches such as ACT, CBT, psychodynamic, family systems, existential, feminist, multicultural, and person centered. Interest in polyvagal theory and other somatic practices is a plus. We welcome the use of Jungian and spiritual approaches such as the use of archetypes, tarot cards, oracle decks, and mindfullness/meditation practices. Interns should demonstrate the soft skills necessary to work independently and seek out assistance as needed.
